MU 464
Adv Clinical Musicianship
A continuation of MU364, this course focuses upon the development of students' clinical musicianship at an advanced
level. Grounded in music-centred approaches to music therapy, course content is largely experiential, and highlights advanced
principles of clinical improvisation, as well as the clinical use of songwriting within therapeutic processes with adolescents and
adults. Musical approaches, techniques, and considerations based upon diverse musical traditions and styles will be
explored. Through workshopping repertoire and techniques, and exploring the musical content from clinical case studies,
students gain the essential musical skills needed for their simultaneous placement and subsequent internship, while
solidifying their ability to make musical decisions that are grounded in clinical intention.
Prerequisites: MU364.
Exclusions: MU464B.
